Beginning with Source
I have observed over the years that for young clients, especially those who are experiencing low moods and an absence of meaning or if they are grieving the loss of a loved one, the transpersonal element, when integrated into therapy, offers a fresh, expansive and empowering perspective. In nature’s cycles and rhythms we see that there is a relationship between the Earth and the sky, the moon and the tides and the effect it has on the menstrual cycle, and moods and how the cosmic dance is constantly in play. But there is something deeper, what some may refer to as a divine source, higher consciousness and soul or essence, which transcend psychology models limited to reductionist thinking about behaviour and the physical realm.
Energy and intention
Expanding one’s perspective and suspending one’s beliefs is a way to explore greater potential. And regardless of whether you disregard the transpersonal as a theory, or have experienced anomalies which indicate the conscious intelligence of a divine source, the transpersonal still overlaps with science insofar as energy is concerned. And what if we could see the impact of our thoughts and intentions through the transmission of energy in a tangible way? Well, we can begin with water...
Water as a conscious being
Water researcher Veda Austin who specialises in crystallography has collected over 40,000 photos of water, revealing crystallising images seen in her design structures in ice from each experiment set in a glass petri-dish. These extraordinary images are evoked by her ‘thoughts, music, media, words, photos and emotions’ as she puts it. And the question arising out of this phenomena concerns consciousness. The startling evidence shows that water responds directly to communication by reflecting back and mirroring the positive or negative transmissions.
My fascination with this water research led me to participate in one of Veda’s workshops using a glass petri-dish. This first-hand experience, with the group sharing our crystallised water images, was truly remarkable. You can visit Veda’s website to know that this is real.
Love and gratitude
I first heard about water crystallisation through the pioneering work of Dr Masaru Emoto. He emphasises the power of words and intention with a focus on love and gratitude through which water carries the vibrations and resonance of what is being communicated. So when we consider that our bodies carry 70% of water, it reinforces the significance of how we think and communicate and its impact. The theory of universal consciousness, and that our Earth is a conscious being and everything is energy and consciousness, takes on a whole different meaning. The ancients have written about this and archaeological evidence and quantum physics support these understandings.
The power of resonance
Since everything is made up of energy and sounds, regardless of whether we are able to hear those sounds, they are vibrating. Everything is vibrating universally. Knowing that your vibration is conscious and alive can help to encourage positive changes in interpersonal relations, such as taking a pause before going into reaction. Then your choice of positive words and the thinking underpinning those words have the capacity to transform your relationship with yourself and others around you.
Parent-child and teacher-child communications
By focusing on loving, affirming, encouraging and compassionate ways to communicate and expressing that verbally, you are transmitting happiness. And this wakes up the brain’s happy chemicals and optimises the body’s immune system through that energy. Words are powerful, so if you put yourself down and berate yourself for making a mistake, if this is a pattern, you can change that pattern over time with intention and perseverance.
A fun family thing to do with water and consciousness
This step by step activity provides an opportunity for the family to experience first-hand this ‘magical’ water crystallisation experiment to show how water embodies consciousness.
Veda’s instructions and what she offers in her workshop is much more in-depth. I have adapted my own version inspired by her workshop and Dr Emoto’s ‘blessings’. In his experiments he speaks to the water and says, ‘I love you’ followed by ‘thank you.’ Some people also talk lovingly to their plants which bloom beautifully! Nature’s feedback shows us how powerful our thoughts and words are.
Here’s how it works
You will need a glass petri-dish with a glass lid, preferably spring or filtered water, a freezer and a camera (a mobile phone is fine).
Be as fully present as you can.
Part 1 – The Positive
Step 1:
- Fill the petri-dish with water approximately 2-3 mm.
Step 2:
- Imagine you are breathing in a radiant light filled with love and focusing on the water. As you do this, hover your hands just above the water, with palms facing down sending energy into the fluid. Suggestions to say: “Thank you water, I am grateful to you, you are beautiful, I love you.”
- Imagine that all of this light and love is immersing in the water.
Step 3:
- Place the petri-dish in the freezer and leave for approximately 4 mins. You’ll need to check for the water so that it’s half frozen, consisting of ice and liquid. The duration will depend on the freezer temperature.
Step 4:
- Remove the petri-dish from the freezer and put it on a flat surface.
Step 5:
- Immediately take the photo.
Part 2 – The Negative
To see the contrast of how energy influences water, you can change step 2 above by focusing on a feeling of fear, following steps 3 - 5 using the same process.
As with all experiments, be playful, open and you can always try again and compare your results.
Conscious communication
Higher consciousness at its core translates into love, i.e. consciously being warm, kind and loving alongside setting healthy boundaries. There is everything to gain by applying conscious communication and noticing what helps you and your children thrive.
