Psychotherapy and Counselling with Adolescents

Helping early, mid and late teens thrive

Psychotherapy and Counselling For Adolescents (Teens)

If you are a young person reading this, perhaps you’ve come across my website yourself. Or, as often happens, I am contacted by parents of teenagers who think you would benefit from having therapy or counselling. I usually suggest that parents share my website details so you can get an idea of who I am and how I work. You can also read about me on the About page.

Growing Up

Moving from a younger to older child in your teens is big milestone. So many physical and emotional changes are happening and it’s normal to feel unsettled or confused. You may have many questions but feel embarrassed to ask. There may be other stuff going on, and you just don’t feel right for any number of reasons.

“Trying to hide and bury painful feelings doesn’t make them go away.”

It’s normal to be deeply affected by challenging circumstances. Even if you don’t know why you’re feeling so low, therapy can help you to uncover the root of those feelings. Having a safe place to unload your burdens, with a safe and qualified professional who truly listens and understands, can make a huge difference.

It’s a courageous thing to admit that you need help and seek it.

Identifying Some Issues That May Relate To How You Are feeling, Such As…

  • lacking motivation to do anything.
  • feeling lonely and empty even when you are with others.
  • loss of joyful feelings that you used to have in life.
  • dread, fear, intrusive thoughts, and a pounding heart.
  • waking up every morning feeling overwhelmed and depressed.

If these sound true for you, I want you to know that even if you are really struggling, nothing is wrong with you. What you are experiencing is normal and it’s okay to ask for help. Self-care is about treating yourself in a loving way. It’s important and it’s normal and healthy to seek professional help when life feels too hard.

Therapy-Counselling Can Help You To Feel Less Anxiety And Fear

It is possible to feel better.

Imagine a life where you could...

  • really feel joy.
  • stop worrying all the time.
  • control how you respond to anxious thoughts.
  • figure out who you are and what makes you happy.
  • improve your relationship with yourself and the people around you.

Therapy can help you to gain a fresh mindset, adjust your behaviour to become more balanced, uncover strengths and discover things about yourself that you haven’t realised before.

I have helped young people going through difficult feelings to understand themselves better, to look at a situation and see themselves and their life in a way that they couldn’t have imagined before. They discover new ways of coping and begin to discover their true nature.

How Psychotherapy and Counselling with Adolescents Works

It consists of 50-minute, one-on-one sessions that help you work through your concerns. In addition to listening, I will guide you towards solutions and motivate you with ideas, I play an active role. Here’s how it will work step-by-step:

  • First, I provide a safe, accepting space so that you will feel comfortable sharing your struggles with me.
  • Through hearing your story, I will start to get a picture of what your challenges are.
  • We will start with helping you with immediate concerns like managing difficult emotions and challenging life situations.
  • We will also work to discover what your goals are in therapy and in life.
  • Keeping your unique goals in mind, we’ll figure out what’s needed to help you reach them.
  • Over the course of our sessions, you will start making progress towards the life you desire.

Research shows that therapy can positively change your thinking, beliefs, emotions, and behaviours. It can help you let go of what’s holding you back.
